LG Electronics to release 3G netbooks in 20 nations
SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korean electronics giant LG Electonics Inc. said Thursday it plans to release its latest mini laptop with Internet connectivity in overseas markets later this week.
The 3G X110 netbook model will be released in 20 nations in Europe, North
America, the Middle East and Asia over the weekend, the company said. A netbook
refers to a category of small-sized and low-cost laptops generally optimized for
Web surfing and e-mailing.
Weighing just 1.19 kilograms, the model has a 10-inch display and allows users to
access the Internet via third-generation (3G) mobile networks.
The overseas launch comes after LG Electronics put the model on the domestic
market last month.
Market research Agency Gartner predicts global netbook shipments will reach 26
million units by 2012 to account for 10 percent of global laptop sales.
