All Nations Responsible To Maintain International Security
Jakarta, March 21 (Antara) - Maintaining international peace and security is the obligation of all nations, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here on Thursday.
The president noted that the policy of every nation should encourage the development of mutual trust at the region and inter-region levels.
"One of the challenges in our region is addressing issues related to territorial and jurisdiction of each country," the president said at the opening of the Jakarta International Defence Dialogue (JIDD) at the Jakarta Convention Centre on Wednesday, March 20.
Yudhoyono said that the effort to mediate and resolve issues related to the territorial dispute and jurisdiction often time consuming, requiring a high capacity of each country to deal with it.
Besides the territorial dispute issue, the other issues that also begin to surfacing nowadays is related to the maintenance of international peace and security.
"Our challenge n encouraging our international security is how we build mutual trust among countries in the region," he said.
To build mutual trust, President Yudhoyono said that mutual understanding is needed, not only between governments but also between the military of each country.
"In my view, it (building trust-ed) also involves a sense of trust between countries, especially between the government and the military," he said.
When any party started it all with a sense of mutual trust, then these issues will be easily traversed by all parties, the president added.
"This will make the partnership will continue to grow," he said.
However, the President said that the efforts to build mutual trust should be done gradually to obtain optimal results.
