Russian University Tries To Recruit

Jakarta, March 27 (Antara) - Mari State Technical University in Russia has tried to recruit Indonesian students by promoting the university in Russian Cultural Center in Jakarta. "There are 140 Indonesian students who have studied in Russia," Russian Embassy spokesman Dmitry Solodov said in his statement here on Tuesday. Most of the students learned about engineering in Moskow and other cities, and the others studied about medical matter. Social Studies International Student Department Coordinator of Mari State Technical University Anna Nikolaevna came to Indonesia and promoted his university to Indonesian communities. "There is no Indonesian student yet who studied in our university, that`s why we came here," she said. Anna said that financial problems may be obstacles of Asian people to study in Russia, because the living cost in Russia is very high. So far, there are only seven students from Asia, five students from China and two others from Nepal, according to Anna. She said that every person who want to study in her university has to speak Russian language. "If the prospective student is not able to speak Russian, we provide courses for six month before starting to study," she said. The university has 10 faculties such as Faculty of Timber Engineering, Mechanics and Machine Building, Radio Engineering, Civil Engineering, Information Technologies and Computer Engineering, Forestry and Ecology, Environmental and Water Management, Social Studies, Management and Law and Economics. Besides, some facilities are provided such as dormitory, sports arena and research centers. "The students from other country have to stay in campus` dormitories for safety reason," she said. Every student has to spend USD2000 until USD5000 per year for studying cost there, but it does not include living cost. Anna expected that more Indonesian students could study in one of the good university in Moskow.
