South Bandung Still Flooded
Bandung, W Java, March 28 (Antara) - A flood triggered by heavy rains in the past two days inundated a number of areas in Bandung district, West Java, on Thursday.
The flood hit the hardest Baleendah and Dayeuhkolot areas, causing congestion on the Majalaya/Banjaran road leading to Bandung city, the capital of West Java Province.
By Thursday morning, floodwaters still inundated thousands of homes in flood-prone areas, particularly Cieunteung at Baleendah village.
"Rains fell on the upper reach of Citarum river until Wednesday evening, causing the level of river water to rise," Evi, a public order agency (Satpol PP) officer in Bandung, said.
The flood forced hundreds of residents to evacuate to higher ground, with some of them taking shelters at other residents` homes.
Hundreds of houses were also submerged by one-meter-deep flood water in Solokan Jeruk sub-district in Bandung district.
"My house has been flooded since two days ago," Didin, a resident of Solokan Jeruk said.
The flood also inundated the section of Cicalengka - Cikancung - Majalaya road near a three-way intersection leading to the Cijapati road, with the water level of up to 60 cm.
The inundation forced motorists from Majalaya to Cicalengka or the other way around to use an alternative road.
