Gold-winning Olympic baseball manager wins fat salary

SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- Beijing Olympic's gold-winning baseball manager Kim Kyung-moon has been awarded the second most lucrative contract for a manager in the South Korean league, his team Doosan Bears announced Tuesday.

Kim, 50, who led South Korea to its first-ever Olympic gold in baseball in
August, has agreed to a three-year extension worth 1.4 billion won (US$1 million)
with his Seoul-based team, it said.
The contract pledges the second highest salary for a manager in South Korea, just
150 million won short of the amount paid to Kim Jae-pak of the LG Twins, also
based in Seoul.
"I will make the Doosan Bears a stronger team and pay it back with the
championship title," Kim Kyung-moon told reporters.
The Doosan Bears, who Kim has led since 2004, finished second in the eight-team
league this year, falling short of winning the Korea Series title after being
beaten by SK Wyverns over the weekend.
