Hyundai Motor cars to get 8-speed transmission in 2010
SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. plans to equip some of its models with an eight-speed transmission in 2010, as its affiliate is set to start mass producing the eight-speed box, a company executive said Tuesday.
"Mass-produced models with be equipped with the eight-speed transmission in
2010," Park Seong-hyun, head of Hyundai's powertrain center, told reporters.
Park didn't elaborate on which models will use the eight-speed transmission.
Hyundai Powertech Co., the unit of Hyundai Motor, will begin mass production of
the eight-speed transmission before 2010, Park said.
More gears means a vehicle can be smoother and more efficient.
