S. Korea to attend G-20 meeting on financial cooperation
SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will attend an upcoming conference of a group of 20 advanced and emerging countries in Brazil to discuss policy cooperation against global financial turmoil, Seoul officials said Tuesday.
Deputy Finance Minister Shin Je-yoon, along with Bank of Korea Gov. Lee
Seong-tae, will head for Sao Paulo to join the two-day conference that will kick
off on Saturday, according to the Finance Ministry.
Shin will go to the meeting instead of Finance Minister Kang Man-soo, who has to
stay here for parliamentary interpellation sessions. He is scheduled to meet with
his U.S. counterpart, David McCormick, and exchange opinions on bilateral
economic cooperation and the future role of G-20 member countries.
The G-20 consists of seven advanced nations including the U.S., Japan, Britain,
France and Germany, plus 13 emerging nations including South Korea, China, India,
Brazil and Argentina.
The Sao Paulo meeting will serve as a preparation to fine-tune agendas for the
G-20 summit to be held on Nov. 15 in Washington, the ministry said.
