Hyundai Motor's sales in U.S. drop 31 pct in October

SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. said Tuesday its October sales in the
United States plunged 31 percent from a year ago, amid tight auto finance credit
and signs of an economic recession in the world's largest economy.
"We are experiencing one of the most challenging times in recent automotive
history," said Dave Zuchowski, vice president of Hyundai's U.S. subsidiary, in a
statement.
Hyundai sold 20,820 vehicles last month in the U.S., compared with 30,232 units
it sold for the same period last year.
Hyundai is on course to fail to meet its 2008 sales target of 550,000 vehicles in
the U.S.
In the first 10 months of this year, Hyundai sold 358,484 units, compared with
388,639 units it sold for the same period last year, according to the Hyundai
statement.
