Ministry Intel To Send Students To International Competition
Jakarta, May 7 (Antara) - The Ministry of Education and Culture in cooperation with Intel Indonesia will send five Indonesian students to compete in International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2013 in Arizona the United States on May 12-17.
"The younger generation must be given an opportunity to develop their scientific and engineering potentials. Starting from joining the ISEF it is hoped they could later find solutions of problems using their knowledge and sciences," Mohammad Nuh, minister of education and culture, said here on Tuesday.
According to him, the participation of students in international scientific forums could help them interact in global society.
"It`s time for Indonesia to develop the potentials of its younger generation. Now the number of productive younger people is bigger than the older people`s," minister said.
He added, Indonesia has set a target of in 2030 being among the seven top world economic powers and would need about 113 million of skilled manpower.
In view of that the minister said he supports students` participation in international competitions especially in the ISEF 2013.
Mohammad Nuh said the participation in the ISEF is part of Indonesia`s efforts in preparing future trained manpower.
"The students should get the support from all parties including the government and private parties," he said.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Head of Intel Indonesia Deva Rachman said Intel has been sponsoring pre-university science and engineering competition since 1997.
The move was taken to stimulate the younger generation to study mathematics and science, which play an important role in global economy development.
"ISEF is a place where students are encouraged to develop their potentials and abilities to innovate and create," Deva said.
She said she hoped the students could develop their talent later to deal with future challenges.
The five Indonesian students would compete in the US along with about 1,500 students from around the world.
They are Jovita Nathania, Maria Christiana Yolenta Lestari, Rosinta Handinata, Hani Devinta Sari and Muhammad Imadudin Siddiq.
The students would be put into three groups and present their researches.
