Students In Biak Form "Red Tape" Volunteers To Prevent HIV/AIDS
Biak, Papua, May 17 (Antara) - Hundreds of high school students in Biak Numfor District, Papua, formed "Red Tape" volunteers on Friday to campaign for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
Led by Febriana, a student from YPK Vocational Senior High School here, the Red Tape volunteers have a commitment to delivering information about the danger of HIV/AIDS to the other students across the district.
Spokesman of Papua Loving Solidarity Forum, Fauziah Alkatiri, said here on Friday that the Red Tape volunteers were expected to be the forerunner of HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.
"Every student who joins this voluntary work will have the responsibility to campaign for the danger of HIV/AIDS to his or her relatives, family members, and the people at large," Fauziah said.
Meanwhile, Papua Parliament Caucus secretary general FX Moediono positively welcomed the formation of Red Tape volunteers for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS among the students in Papua.
"Since from the earlier stage, the students have to know effects of the danger of HIV/AIDS because it is regard to the safety of the young generation in the land of Papua," Moerdiono noted.
He expressed his hope that the awareness of the students in Biak to campaign for the prevention of HIV/AIDS could be accepted and supported by all parties in a sustainable manner.
Before forming the Red Tape volunteers, the students underwent a training program and a seminar on the prevention of the deadly disease here on Wednesday and Thursday.
