Doosan Heavy Q3 net almost quadruples

SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Yonhap) -- Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., South
Korea's largest power-equipment maker, said Wednesday that its third-quarter
profit almost quadrupled on rising overseas demand for power plants.

Its net profit reached 131 billion won (US$104 million) in the July-September
period, compared with 33.4 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a
regulatory filing.
Operating income surged 65 percent to 117 billion won over the cited period, and
sales nearly doubled to 1.48 trillion won, it said.
Shares of Doosan Heavy were trading at 62,600 won on the Seoul bourse as of 1:00
p.m., up 8.87 percent.
Nations in Asia and the Middle East is increasing spending on building oil
refiners and power plants.
Doosan Heavy expects its sales and operating income for next year to reach 5.81
trillion won and 458 billion won, respectively.
