RI-Germanny Agree To Enhance Coop In Combating Transnational Crimes
London, May 21 (Antara) - Indonesia and Germany have agreed to enhance cooperation in combating terrorism and other transnational crimes as a follow up to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s visit to Germany last March, according to the Indonesian embassy in Berlin.
Indonesian Police Chief Gen. Timor Pradopo and State Secretary of German Interior Ministry Klaus-Dieter Fritsche signed a declaration of intent to that effect when the former visited Germany recently, the embassy`s counselor Ayodhia Kalake said in an emailed statement to Antara correspondent based in London on Monday.
Ayodhia said the declaration of intent marks cooperation between the two countries in preventing and combating transnational crimes including economic crime, cyber crime, document forgery, human trafficking, corruption, drug abuse and terrorism.
The declaration of intent also covers capacity building in which both sides have agreed to exchange information and experience, cooperate in organizing police education including trainer/tutor exchange program, and extend facility and infrastructure assistance for the Indonesian police, he said.
Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Eddy Pratomo said the declaration of intent serves as concrete implementation of one of the points in the Jakarta Declaration launched during German Chancellor Angela Merkel`s visit to Indonesia last year and a follow up to President Yudhoyono`s visit to Germany in March 2013.
Eddy said the cooperation agreement strengthens comprehensive partnership between the two countries and has political and psychological meaning to increase comfort level and familiarity between the two countries to cooperate in upholding laws.
While in Germany, Gen. Timur Pradopo also visited law enforcement agencies including holding a meeting with chief of the Federal Criminal Police Office Jrg Ziercke.
At the meeting, both sides discussed efforts to develop cooperation between the police of the two countries in education and training and exchange of actual information.
As a follow to the Indonesian police chief`s visit to Germany, both sides agreed to hold a police expert level consultation forum to map in details cooperation programs between the two countries.
