RI Hosting Asian Postal Service Workshop
Jakarta, May 27 (Antara) - Indonesia is hosting the fourth workshop of the Asian electronic postal financial services, President Director of the Indonesian postal service company PT Pos Indonesia I Ketut Mardjana said.
"Indonesia is proud of being able to host the fourth workshop," I Ketut Mardjana said on the sidelines of the workshop here on Monday.
He said that the workshop was held to expand the financial service system among members of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This is an information technology-based system, also known as the International Financial System (IFS).
"Indonesia`s participation in the UPU-IFAD is intended to enhance the quality of remittance system of UPU member countries," he said.
I Ketut said that information technology brought fast and significant changes in society`s lifestyles.
"Postal costumers need fast, secure and quality services," he said.
I Ketut said that with the utilization of IFS and UPU, the money order services among countries, which were previously carried out through conventional means, namely physical transmission, were increased into a virtual transmission. Through this system, the money order services were faster with a guaranteed security.
The workshop was initiated by two international institutions, namely the UPU and the IFAD.
Indonesia as a member of UPU is one of the participating countries in the electronic postal financial service enhancement project together with other Asian countries, namely Cambodia, India, Laos, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Besides by representatives from six countries involved in the project, the workshop is also being attended by representatives from other UPU members, namely Bangladesh, France, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
