German Woman Promotes Indonesian batik In Hamburg
London, June 4 (Antara) - Indonesian consulate in Hamburg in cooperation with International Women`s Club Hamburg (IWCH) in Germany`s city, promoted batik through presentation by a German woman, Annegrett Haake, 80.
Annegrett Haake is a Germany elderly woman and also a Batik lover and expert in Javanese ancient Batik, according to Indonesian consulate in Hamburg on Tuesday.
Around 60 people consisting of the IWCH organizers, including representatives of other countries in Hamburg attended the two-hour promotion function, the consulate said.
President of IWCH, Kim Riedel expressed appreciation to the Indonesian consulate in Hamburg that has invited the IWCH for the second time to participate in the promotion event in effort to increase their knowledge about Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Indonesian consul in Hamburg, Marina Estella Anwar Bey said that the Batik presentation was aimed at stepping up promotion of the Indonesian batik as one of the country`s cultural heritage to the international community.
After gaining recognition of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity from UNESCO in October 2009, batik increasingly wellknown inside and outside the country, and efforts were made to make it more global.
Haake during her presentation explained about the Indonesian batik thoroughly.
