21 Witnesses Already Questioned Over Freeport Incident

Jayapura, Papua, June 14 (Antara) - A team of investigators from the Papua Regional Police Command have questioned 21 witnesses in connection with the recent collapse of a PT Freeport facility in Papua that left 28 people dead. The team led by the director of crime investigation of the police command, Senior Commissioner Bambang Priyambada, has also collected information from minerals and coal experts, the command`s spokesman, Senior Commissioner Gede Sumerta said to Antara here on Friday. "We will still question the witnesses in connection with the case," he said. The team has been set up to investigate whether the incident at the underground facility was caused by negligence, deliberate actions or an accident, he said. Asked when the investigation would finish Sumerta said he did not know yet. An underground training facility at the US-owned mining company collapsed on May 14 when 38 workers were undergoing a training program there leaving 28 of them dead and 10 others wounded.
