Lebanese Parliament Speaker Hails High Voter Turnout At Iran Presidential Election

Beirut, June 22, IRNA – Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday praised the Iranian nation for its high turnout at the June 14 presidential election. In a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Beirut, Ghazanfar Roknabadi, Berri said the turnout was indicative of real democracy in Iran. He once again congratulated Iranian president-elect Hassan Rohani on his landslide victory, saying his moderate approach will help Iran constructively interact with regional countries and the world. Rohani, a moderate cleric, has created a new opportunity for other regional countries to improve their relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said. He urged regional nations to forge unity against enemiesˈ plots to fuel ethnic and religious differences in the region. He called for an immediate solution to Syrian crisis, saying the continuation of unrest in the Arab country will destabilize the entire region and allow the spread of radical views. The Iranian ambassador said for his part that stability in Lebanon is the Islamic Republicˈs top priority and supporting resistance against the Zionist regime is among Iranˈs unchangeable policies. The two officials discussed issues of mutual interest as well as regional developments./end
