Lee expresses condolences over death of Japanese TV anchor

SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak on Friday delivered his condolences over the death of Tetsuya Tsukushi, celebrity news anchor of Japanese TV station TBS, through South Korea's Ambassador to Japan Kwon Chul-hyu, the presidential office said.

Tsukushi died at the age of 73 in Tokyo earlier Friday after a long illness.
"Despite his illness, Tsukushi hosted a TBS talk show for President Lee and first
lady Kim Yoon-ok during their visit to Tokyo in late April. It was his last
television appearance," the presidential office said in a brief press release.
"In recognition of Tsukushi's devotion and contribution to South Korean-Japanese
relations, President Lee sent Korean Ambassador to Japan Kwon to the mortuary to
express deep condolences to his bereaved family."
Appearing on the "News 23 Special" talk show on April 21, President Lee voiced
his wish to boost friendship with Japan, speaking on inter-Korean and other
pending issues, as well as on his success and family story.
Lee visited Tokyo from April 20-21 for summit talks with then Japanese Prime
Minister Yasuo Fukuda.
