Minister: Ankara to respond to German veto on EU-Turkey negotiations

Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 June / Trend A.Tagiyeva / Ankara will not ignore a response to Germany's actions to block the launch of a new round of negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU, Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagis said, Habertürk newspaper reported on Tuesday. According to the minister, Turkey and Germany need each other and if Germany finally blocks the transition to the new phase of the negotiations between Turkey and the EU, it would be an unfair decision. Earlier, a number of media reported that Germany has blocked the passage to the next stage of the negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU. On Thursday senior diplomats of the EU countries held a meeting during which they had to decide on starting the consideration of launching the next step of the negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU next week. To do this, the EU had to unanimously support the decision to continue the negotiations, but representatives of two countries including Germany, have blocked it. Formal negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU started in 2005. Over the past three years, the parties have not started consideration of any new technical clause. At the same time by the moment, Turkey was able to close the negotiations only in one of the clauses. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
