(2nd LD) 30 schoolgirls injured in auto accident
(ATTN: UPDATES with driver's head injury)
POHANG, South Korea, Nov. 8 (Yonhap) -- Thirty students on a school excursion were injured, none of them seriously, when a bus veered off a rain-slick road in this provincial city on Saturday, police said.
The students from a local girls' high school, accompanied by four teachers, were
heading to the nearby ancient city of Andong when the accident took place, they
said.
"Most of them suffered minor injuries as they were wearing seat belts," a police
investigator said, adding that the 56-year-old bus driver sustained relatively
serious head injuries.
Police said the bus skidded off the road while trying to overtake a vehicle
ahead, hit through a guardrail and plunged into a rice paddy.
The road became slippery after drizzling rain, which might have contributed to
the accident, police said.
