Police To crack Down On Illegal Raids On Entertainment Places

Sukabumi, July 11 (Antara) - The Sukabumi city police threaten to crack down on illegal raids on night entertainment places and restaurants opening on daytime. The announcement is in line with the police regulation that only police or other security units could launch such raids. The announcement was apparently addressed to Islam Defender Front (FPI), which in the past launched raids on entertainment centers and restaurants operating in daytime during the Ramadhan fasting month. "The ones to launch such raids are security units like city administration police units (Satpol) to forestall conflict between mass organization and the owners of the night entertainment places or restaurants," Sukabumi police chief Adj. Sen. Comrs Hari Santoso told reporters here on Thursday. Hari called on leaders of mass organizations to coordinate with police or other security agencies to maintain order in the city. He threatened police will crack down on any act of anarchy or lawlessness "We would not hesitate to impose heavy punishment on leaders of mass organizations violating the rule," he said. He said police have coordinated with the city administration to close all night entertainment places during the Ramadhan. Restaurants and other food stalls should not start operation before 16.00 local, he said. "We also call on non Muslim residents to respect their Muslim brother performing their religious duty by not eating and drinking in open places during the fasting months," he said.
