Shipyard to be launched in Turkmenbashi port

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Aug. 19 / Trend H. Hasanov /
A shipyard will be put into operation at the Caspian port in Turkmenbashi in 2017.
Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary" (TDH) states in its commentary that the shipyard will become a new enterprise for the national economy, the operation of which will mean the birth of domestic shipbuilding industry.
The project will be implemented by Turkish Gap Inshaat, which, according to world media outlets, became the winner of the international tender on building a modern seaport with the estimated value of about $2 billion in Turkmenbashi.
The plant will be built in the framework of this large-scale project and put into operation in 4 years.
The Turkmenbashi shipyard, as stated in the article, published in "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper on Friday, will occupy the territory of 143, 000 square meters. The project capacity is 20, 000 tons of incoming steel in a year.
It is expected, that the enterprise will perform a full cycle of work on construction of ships and vessels for different purposes: tankers, bulk carriers, tugs, oil and gas platforms ( self-raising jack up-platforms).
The software will allow to stock from 4 to 6 large vessels (with the length to 160 meters and carrying capacity 7 000 tons) from the plant stock, and to repair 20-30 ships per year. On achieving the plant's project capacity, 600 people are planned to be involved in the work.
The plant is projected according to the international standard requirements of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies).
The Turkmenbashi seaport project considers the building of ferry, passenger and container terminals. The complex will include total loading terminal, bulk cargo terminal.
The control over the work will be taken by German Inros Lackner AG.
For protection of Caspian sea's ecology, bio-clearing equipment will be established in each terminal. The project is designed according to Green port international standards.
Ferry and passenger ports will be considered for serving 300,000 passengers and 75,000 trailers in a year.
According to Tukmen media outlets, it is about laying the foundations of new geo-economic space, joining Central Asia, Caspian Sea countries with South Caucasus and Black Sea region with further exit to Turkey and European countries.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who took part in laying Turkmenbashi seaport the day before, noted that the perspectives of expanding transport infrastructure in southern and eastern directions with the exit to such large economic centers, as China, India, Pakistan, the Asian-Pacific region will arise.
"New international seaport in Turkmenbashi will also influence the geopolitics, will be one of the main constituents of international cooperation in the transport sphere and have positive impact on general situation in the region and beyond it," the Turkmen leader said.
