Prachanda ridicules Parl Democracy after internal poll debacle

Shirish B Pradhan

Kathmandu, Nov 11 (PTI) Maoist chief and Prime
Minister Prachanda, who got shameful defeat in internal voting
in various state committees of the party from hardliner leader
Mohan Vaidya "Kiran," has now sprayed venom against the
Parliamentary Democracy to consolidate his grip in the party.

Prachanda's political paper presented at the party' s
central committee meeting last month mentions about
Multi-party competitive politics while aiming to draft a
people oriented constitution. Whereas, Vaidya's political
paper mentions about establishing North Korean style Communist
Republic and to incorporate it in the new constitution.

During internal discussions within various
organisational divisions of the largest communist party
followed by secret voting Prachanda lost in all the state
committees except one, sources close to the Maoists said.

The Maoists have envisioned 15 federal state
structures of the country and the party has accordingly
divided its organisations into 15 state committees.

Parliamentary democracy and market led neo-liberal
economic policies had further marginalised the poor and the
helpless under the disguise of globalisation, Prachanda said
at a programee here on Monday.

"The developed countries are now realising the
drawbacks of complete deregulation of the financial sector and
free market economy," Prachanda said addressing a Conference
on Democracy, Development and Peace in Asia organized by South
Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication and Korea (North)
Democratic Foundation here.

The party's cadres are clearly divided between those
who favoured multi-party competitive politics advocated by
Prachanda and those who favoured establishment of Communist
Republic or People's Republic as advocated by Vaidya. PTI SBP
