S. Korea U19 football squad loses to Uzbekistan

SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korea failed to come back from an early 1-0
deficit and lost to Uzbekistan in the semifinals of an under-19 regional
championship on Wednesday (Korean time), the Asian Football Confederation said on
its Web site.
Despite the loss in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, South Korea will still participate in
the U-20 World Cup set for next year in Egypt as a berth in the semifinals of the
regional competition automatically guarantees a ticket.
South Korea conceded a goal in the 17th minute when an Uzbek offender rifled a
low shot into the net that deflected off a defender. The team, which sought its
first title since 2004, failed to equalize afterwards.
Sixteen nations have competed in the championship, and Uzbekistan will face the
United Arab Emirates in the finals later this week.
