Azerbaijani State Customs Committee: New bridge will ease congestion

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 24 / Trend E. Aliyev / The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee continues managing heavy loads for existing checkpoints, chairman of the committee Aydin Aliyev told Trend today. "For example, the main point on the border with the Russian Federation is Samur," he said. "The bridge at this site is in poor condition. This regularly leads to delays and losses for entrepreneurs and citizens. There are queues as a result of the beginning of the school year. Therefore, we are negotiating with colleagues about the construction of a new bridge and the strengthening of activity of other existing checkpoints. The decision about the bridge has already been made." According to him, the committee is involved in similar activity with all neighbouring countries. "In general, the strategy of the State Customs Committee includes the need to hold regular talks with counterparts from neighbouring countries," he said. "We meet with the customs officers of the Russian Federation, Iran, Georgia and Turkey to discuss the current problems. We are also looking for ways to solve them." Do you have any feedback?
