French ambassador: Baku will successfully hold first European Olympic Games

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 25 / Trend M. Aliyev / France is making special preparations in connection with the first European Olympic Games to be held in Baku in 2015, French ambassador to Azerbaijan Pascal Monnier said at an event today organised by the embassy in connection with preparation for the Games. According to him, UEFA President Michel Platini is expected to arrive for the opening of the Olympic Stadium which is under construction. Monnier said that he witnessed the rapid development of Baku during his time as ambassador in Azerbaijan. According to him, today Baku resembles Tokyo. "We are confident that Baku will successfully cope with the status of a country hosting the European Olympic Games," he said. "Azerbaijan is a very ambitious country. It is a Caspian littoral country which is maintaining stability. Representatives of different nationalities live here. The country has a tradition of hospitality." The diplomat went on to say the main goal of this event is to exchange experience. "Azerbaijan has successfully held the Eurovision song contest," he said. "But European Olympic Games are a much more important event." Monnier said that along with success, there are such challenges as traffic jams and some others issues that must be resolved.
