Turkmenistan speaks for opening of UN dialogue on Caspian Sea ecology

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, September 26/ Trend, H. Hasanov /
Turkmenistan considers it reasonable to create a new cooperation mechanism - the international ecological dialogue on the Caspian Sea under the auspices of the UN in order to consolidate the efforts of the Caspian Sea countries in the sphere of environmental protection, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
The article was dedicated to the three-day meeting (September 25-27) of the representatives of the Caspian Sea countries held in Ashgabat.
"The participants of the meeting expressed satisfaction with the coherency of the carried out work on discussion of the draft Agreement on cooperation in the field of prevention of emergency situations of natural and man-made character and elimination of their consequences in the Caspian Sea and the coastal areas," the article said.
Turkmen State News Service Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary (TDH) said that Turkmenistan, as a major producer and exporter of hydrocarbons, believes that the environmental security is a key issue.
This is an important condition for international consensus in energy security issues.
"This is especially topical given that the Caspian Sea region precipitously turns into one of the largest world center for production and transportation of hydrocarbons. Therefore the task of combining the objective economic interests, the realities of international cooperation in the energy sphere with the need to preserve the biodiversity of the Caspian Sea, to prevent the upsetting of the existing ecological balance acquires a special importance today, " TDH commented.
Turkmenistan has adopted its national action plan on the Caspian Sea which envisages the measures aimed at preventing the pollution of the environment by industrial facilities, preserving the biodiversity of the Caspian Sea, rational use and reproduction of its biological resources.
