Next meeting of GUAM PA to be held in Tbilisi

Azerbaijan, Baku, September 30/ Trend S. Agayeva / Sixth Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM is scheduled for December 2-3 in Tbilisi, the organization's secretariat said on Monday. The meeting will discuss issues of GUAM cooperation in the legislative arena, as well as the organization's relations with partner countries and other international organizations. GUAM was established by several post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization and left four years later. A decision was made to rename GUAM 'The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM', at the body's first summit in Kiev in 2006. Currently Georgia is chairing the GUAM.
