Deputy Prime Minister: Turkish citizens not attracted to country's accession to EU

Azerbaijan , Baku , October 17/ Trend R. Hafizoglu /
Turkey's accession to the European Union has lost its appeal to the citizens of the country, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said, Haber 7 TV Channel reported on Thursday.
According to him, if before 75 percent of the country expressed their preference for Turkey's accession to the EU, now only 20 percent of the citizens desire it.
Deputy Prime Minister also added that the European Union itself to blame for it.
"Despite the double standards of the EU towards Turkey, Ankara has been doing its utmost to get full membership in this organization," Arinc said.
Earlier it was reported that Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagish said Turkey may become a full member of the EU in the coming years, if no artificial barriers are imposed upon it.
According to him, Turkey has fulfilled 65 percent of its commitments to the EU.
Formal negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU started in 2005.
