Iranian envoy slams US envoy's anti-Iran remarks

United Nations, New York, Nov 15, IRNA
Iran's Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei on
Friday said Tehran has always condemned any kind of violence and
terrorism in Iraq.

In his protest letter to chairman of the UN Security Council which was
circulated as the council's document, he voiced Tehran's support for
the efforts of the Iraqi government to establish stability in and
reconstruction of that occupied country.

In his letter, Khazaei rejected the recent claims made by the US
Ambassador to the UN, Zalmay Khalilzad, during a Security Council
session, adding that Khalilzad's anti-Iran remarks were baseless and
unfounded.

Referring to Khalilzad's statements, Khazaei said that the US efforts
to divert the world public opinion from failure of its policies in
Iraq is not surprising.

In order to mislead the international public opinion, Washington tries
to make baseless accusations against other countries, he reiterated.

Despite making such accusations, the US has never presented any
documents confirming its unfounded claims, the Iranian envoy added.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has been the victim of terrorist
operations by a criminal grouplet which still exists in Iraq and is
fully supported by Washington," Khazaei said in his letter to the UN
Security Council's chief.
