Financial regulator to host overseas IR tours to attract investment
SEOUL, Nov. 16 (Yonhap) -- The Financial Services Commission (FSC) said Sunday
that it will host investor relations (IR) session in New York and London this
week to highlight the safety of the South Korean market and its growth potential.
The financial regulator said the tours that begin Monday will concentrate on
alleviating any concerns about the South Korean economy and stability of the
financial sector in the wake of the Lehman Brothers debacle.
"FSC chairman Jun Kwang-woo and Korea Exchange chief Lee Jung-hwan will stress at
the gatherings that the South Korean market is safe for investment," the watchdog
said.
It said Jun will also meet with heads of Standard and Poor's, MSCI Inc. and
Citibank, and also hold talks with Timothy Geithner, president of the Federal
Reserve Bank of New York on Tuesday.
The talks with Geithner, considered a candidate for the post of U.S. treasury
secretary under the incoming Barack Obama administration, is expected to touch on
both economic and financial issues facing the two countries.
The FSC said leading businesses like Samsung Electronics Co., POSCO and KT&G will
take part in the IR sessions as they take steps to be listed on the Financial
Times Stock Exchange.
