SK Engineering wins joint deal for Laos power plant

SEOUL, Nov. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean builder SK Engineering & Construction Co.
said Monday it has clinched a US$600 million contract together with two other
firms to build a hydroelectric power plant in Laos.
SK Engineering said it will start work on the envisioned plant over the Mekong
River in 2010, but it did not disclose when the power plant will be completed. It
will have a capacity of 390 megawatts when finished, it added.
SK Engineering & Construction said it has won the contract with Korea Western
Power Co., an affiliate of South Korea's state-run Korea Electronic Power Corp.,
and Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Co., a unit of Thailand's state-owned
Electricity Generating Authority.
The deal calls for the contractors to build the plant, operate it for three
decades and then transfer it to the government of Laos, SK Engineering &
Construction said.
