USFK deputy commander to take office next week
SEOUL, Nov. 17 (Yonhap) -- The new deputy commander of U.S. troops stationed in
Korea will assume his new post next week with a change of command ceremony, the
U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) public affairs office said Monday.
The ceremony for Lt. Gen. Jeffrey A. Remington and the outgoing deputy chief, Lt.
Gen. Stephen G. Wood, will be held at the U.S. Air Base in Osan, 55 km south of
Seoul, on Nov. 24. USFK commander Gen. Walter L. Sharp will be the host.
As deputy, Remington will concurrently serve as the head of the air component of
the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command, the commander of the 7th U.S. Air
Force in Korea and the deputy commander of the United Nations Command Korea,
according to the USFK.
Some 28,500 U.S. service members are stationed in South Korea as a legacy of the
1950-53 Korean War, providing deterrence against possible aggression from
communist North Korea.
Remington entered the military in 1977 and has logged more than 4,100 flying
hours, mostly in F-15 and F-16 fighter jets, according to his biography provided
by the U.S. Air Force.
His previous posts include the 80th Fighter Squadron in Korea from 1994-1995 and
the 18th Wing in Japan. He also worked as a staff member at Air Combat Command
headquarters.
Remington currently serves as the director of operations, plans, requirements and
programs at the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces.
