Samsung Electronics tops global LCD TV sales: report

SEOUL, Nov. 18 (Yonhap) -- South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co. was the top seller of liquid-crystal display televisions (LCD TV) around the world in the third quarter, a market report showed Tuesday.

The company shipped a total of 5.39 million LCD TV units in the July-September
period, accounting for 20.2 percent of all global LCD TV sales in the period,
DisplaySearch said in a report.
The feat marks Samsung's ninth consecutive quarterly lead in the LCD TV market
and its first quarterly shipment totaling over 5 million units.
Japan's Sony Corp. and Sharp Corp. trailed, with 13.8 percent and 10.2 percent
market shares, respectively. South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. stood fourth with
a 9.3 percent share.
Samsung also beat rivals in terms of sales revenue for LCD TVs, reaching US$4.9
billion. Sony and Sharp LCD TV sales reached $3.78 billion and $2.27 billion,
respectively.
"Despite a global economic downturn, we've succeeded in achieving record sales
through differentiated product lines," said Shin Sang-heung, an executive
director at Samsung's visual display division.
