Hyundai Motor to sell China-made Sonata sedan next month

SEOUL, Nov. 18 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's top automaker, said Tuesday it will begin selling a China-made model of its Sonata sedan next month in the world's most populous country.

The new model, with a name that combines two Chinese characters to produce the
sound "Ling Xiang," is Hyundai's second to be manufactured in China and is part
of efforts by the automaker to woo local customers, the company said in a
statement.
Hyundai showcased the model at an automotive industry show in Guangzhou,
according to the statement.
The carmaker didn't provide information about a sales target for the China-made
Sonata.
The planned launch for the vehicle comes as most analysts expect Hyundai to miss
this year's sales target in China, as a downdraft on auto sales growth in the
world's No. 2 auto market is coming into focus.
Hyundai originally planned to sell 380,000 vehicles in China this year. In the
first 10 months of the year, the automaker has sold 231,137 units in the country.
