President To Attend National Social Solidarity Day Commemoration

Jakarta, Dec 18 (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend the commemoration of the National Solidarity Day (HKSN) 2013, at Karebosi Square, South Sulawesi, on Saturday. "The President has not been attending HKSN for three consecutive years now," stated Director General of Social Empowerment and Poverty Elimination Affairs of the Ministry of Social Affairs Hartono Laras, here on Wednesday. HKSN is commemorated on December 20, and this year its main ceremony will be held at Karebosi Square, South Sulawesi Province, on December 21, 2013. Over the past three years, the HKSN has been attended by Vice President Boediono, representing the president who was unable to attend it. The HKSN commemoration is a ceremonial activity held to revive the social solidarity spirit that serves as the nation`s identity. A series of activities such as Indotera Expo, a kampong improvement program and other social service activities, are being held. The Social Solidarity Day 2013 will be carried out with the Makassar Charter Declaration by regional leaders who will be attending the function. The Makassar declaration consists of four important points which are expected to serve as guidance for regional leaders in carrying out social solidarity activities. They are social solidarity service month, national social solidarity committee activities, social solidarity task force and social communications post. Besides this, social solidarity activities have also been carried out in certain hamlets and villages in South Sulawesi where 10 people constructed one house. The Social Solidarity Task Forces will construct one house in every village. It means that 3,209 houses will be built in 3,209 villages.
