Five soldiers wounded in grenade explosion

(ATTN: UPDATES with details)
SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- Five South Korean soldiers were wounded Sunday when a
grenade blew up at their barracks in a guard post near the inter-Korean border,
the Army said, adding that the incident seemed unrelated to North Korea.
The soldiers were rushed to a nearby military hospital, with one seriously
wounded on the neck, it said. A total of 17 soldiers were sleeping at the
barracks in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, when the explosion occurred at around
1:50 a.m., it added.
The Army said it was conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the
blast.
"An investigation is under way on the exact cause of the accident," an Army
official said. "Nothing has been found so far to suggest North Korea's
involvement."
The Inter-Korean border is one of the most heavily armed in the world. South and
North Korea remain technically at war as the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an
armistice, not a peace treaty.
