Air Force concludes recent fighter jet crash was accident

SEOUL, Nov. 24 (Yonhap) -- The Air Force concluded on Monday that the recent crash of a fighter jet was caused by it coming into contact with another aircraft, ending a three-week investigation of the case.

The F-5E jet crashed on Nov. 4 near Pocheon, 46 kilometers north of Seoul. There
were no deaths or injuries among local residents reported as a result of the
crash. The pilot ejected safely before his jet crashed and caught fire.
Initial investigations had suggested the aircraft may have grazed another F-5E
jet during the exercise, which later returned safely to its base in Wonju,
Gangwon Province.
A spokesman for the Air Force said investigators have confirmed that the two
aircraft did come into contact, which was the main cause of the crash.
"To prevent a recurrence of such a tragic accident the Air Force, will run
re-training programs for its pilots," Air Force spokesman Kim Kyu-jin told
reporters.
