OF BOOSTING COOPERATION WITH SAUDI ARABIA
ANKARA (A.A) - 25.11.2008 - Turkey's finance minister underlined on Tuesday importance of boosting cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said that it was important to enhance cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
"In these sensitive days, it is more important to boost cooperation and increase trade between our two countries," Unakitan said during a meeting of a joint economic committee between Turkey and Saudi Arabia in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
Unakitan announced the trade volume between two countries around 4.6 billion USD in the first nine months of 2008, with a 69 percent rise over the same period of 2007.
The Turkish minister forecast the year-end bilateral trade volume around 5 billion USD, and expressed determination to raise it to 15 billion USD in the medium term.
Unakitan said that Turkey should sign a free trade agreement of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf as soon as possible, and the agreement on trade of goods should also be concluded.
The Turkish finance minister proposed that a preferential trade system should be set up among the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
