Wyverns manager Kim wins largest contract in S. Korean baseball
SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's SK Wyverns said Friday they have awarded
a three-year 2 billion won (US$1.3 million) contract to their manager, Kim
Seong-geun, the largest deal ever involving a baseball manager in the country.
Kim, who has led the Wyverns to back-to-back Korean Series titles, nows surpasses
LG Twins manager Kim Jae-pak by nearly 500 million won in total salary.
"I thank the franchise for allowing me an opportunity to build my team with a
long-term perspective," Kim said by phone from Japan where he has been training
his team since earlier this month.
Kim, 66, joined the Wyverns in 2007 after serving as a batting instructor for
Japan's Chiba Lotte Marines. The Kyoto, Japan-born manager has instructed several
South Korean teams since he began his coaching career in the early 1980's.
