500 Police Personnel Deployed To Secure Hearing Of Boediono's Testimony

Jakarta, May 9 (Antara) - The Jakarta City Police has deployed 500 police personnel to secure the hearing of Vice President Boediono`s testimony in the trial of accused former Bank Indonesia (BI) deputy governor Budi Mulya. "There are 500 personnel posted at the Corruption Court," Jakarta Police spokesperson Senior Commander Rikwanto stated here on Friday. Boediono is scheduled to serve as a witness in the trial of the Bank Century bailout case at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor), here on Friday (9 May) at 08:00 a.m. Boediono`s testimony is related to the trial on the creation of the short-term liquidity support (FPJP) for Bank Century and declaring that a failure by Bank Century could have had a systemic impact on the nation`s banking system. Rikwanto noted that the police officers will guard the trial process until it is finished. He added that the Jakarta City Police have also deployed Barracuda armored vehicles and water cannon around the location of the trial. He claimed that it is a procedure to safeguard the Vice President. In addition, the police have also provided two detectors to check the court room attendees and their luggage. The VVIP Detail Security Service had sterilized the proceedings chamber since 06:00 p.m.
