Malaysian Boy Among 10 Winners In Mexico Foreign Ministry's Drawing Contest
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- A 10-year-old Malaysian boy, Muhamad Sulaiman Muhamad Rizan was selected as one of the 10 winners in the 17th edition of the 'Este es mi Mexico' (This is my Mexico) annual children's drawing competition.
The Mexican embassy in Kuala Lumpur in a statement said thousands of children around the world participated in the drawing contest, an initiative by Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Institute for Mexicans Abroad.
"The contest encourages children from all over the globe to use an artistic approach to express their perception of Mexico.
"The 17th edition of the contest was themed 'Wings of Mexico'...bringing borders together' and was supported by Jorge Marin, a renowned Mexican painter and sculptor. Marin mentored the contest and donated a work to be given as a prize to each of the 10 winners," said the statement.
The award-presentation ceremony in Malaysia took place Wednesday at the Royal Commonwealth Society in Kuala Lumpur.
Mexico's ambassador to Malaysia, Carlos Felix Corona handed out the main prize to Muhamad Sulaiman as well as a certificate of participation to all the Malaysian children who joined the contest.
In his speech, Corona congratulated the children for their participation and highlighted how they acted like little goodwill ambassadors strengthening ties between Mexico and Malaysia.
The 18th edition of the contest is now open for entries for all kids aged between seven and 11, regardless of their nationality.
This year's theme is children's rights and the participants have to be inspired by the works of Mexican artist Fenando Andriacci. The drawings must be presented to the Embassy of Mexico, here, before Oct 15, 2014.
