FOREIGN TOURIST ARRIVAL TARGET FOR 2009 SET AT 6.7 MILLION

Jakarta, Nov. 29 (ANTARA) - The culture and tourism ministry has set the country's optimistic 2009 foreign tourist attraction target at 6.7 million, or 6.2 percent above the figure achieved in 2008 (6.4 to 6.5 million), a spokesman said.

The government would focus its tourism promotion efforts on 10 countries and regions, Sapta Nirwandar, the ministry's director general for marketing, said here recently.

The ten targeted countries and regions were Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea, India, the Philippines, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe.

From the Philippines, Indonesia was hoping to receive 150,000 tourists in 2009 consisting mostly of expatriates working in the Southeast Asian country, he said.

In 2009, the country was also expecting to receive 1.3 million tourists from Singapore, 960,000 from Malaysia, 970,000 from Europe, 600,000 from Japan, 550,000 from Australia, 410,000 from China, 390,000 from South Korea, and 210,000 from India.
