Application Of Technology Brings Ornamental Fish Business Prospect

Jakarta, Nov 7 (Antara) - The application of technology to increase productivity will help create national ornamental fish business prospect, according to Maritime and Fisheries Affairs Ministry`s Chief for Research and Development Board Achmad Poernomo. He opined that the ornamental fish market`s potential can be further tapped if it is supported by adequate technology to boost its competitiveness. "The application of technology should be oriented to maintaining dynamic and sustainable productivity. In this case, the Maritime and Fisheries Affairs Ministry`s Training and Development Board has come up with a package of technology and innovations for the fishing community," Achmad said here on Thursday. According to him, the innovations include marine technology, catching and fish production, processing technology and its derivatives as well as institutional innovations in marine and fisheries. He said the application of these technologies has also been disseminated to the community through Science and Technology for Society. As a result, he affirmed that with the implementation of these technologies, the endangered species of ornamental fish such as rainbow fish can be bred in large numbers. He further explained that ornamental fish business has shown high potential in improving the livelihood of the people and is an important commodity for Indonesia.
