Samsung Techwin products smallest camera phone module

SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Techwin Co., a South Korean manufacturer of digital cameras and optical equipment, said Tuesday that it has launched the world's smallest 8-megapixel camera module for mobile phones.
Samsung Techwin said that the 8.3 millimeter-thick module is 8.5 millimeters by
8.5 millimeters in size, 40 percent smaller than the size of existing products.
The company also plans to start down the road mass production of its 8-megapixel
camera phone module with a 3x optical zoom function, which was developed in
March.
In early November, the board of Samsung Techwin decided to spin off its camera
division to enhance the competitiveness of each business.
Shareholders will hold on Friday a meeting to vote on the proposed spinoff. The
envisioned company is tentatively named Samsung Digital Imaging.
