Malaysian Railway Aims To Get 20,000 Passengers For Peninsular Express Train By Year End

JOHOR BAHARU (Johor, Malaysia), Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Railway, main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia (KTMB) is aiming to get 20,000 passengers on its Johor Baharu-Hat Yai Peninsular Express Train service until end of the year. Its Intercity senior marketing manager, Mohd Noordin Kimi said an average of 300 passengers used the service daily since it was introduced last Sept 1. "The target group for this service is tourists, especially Singaporeans and Indonesians, who now have a choice to go to Hat Yai, Thailand, by train while enjoying the scenic view and rustic scene along the way," he added. He was speaking to some 30 members of the Malaysia's southern state of Johor Media Club who took part in an exploration to Hat Yai and Songkhla, Thailand, by using the train service recently. Mohd Noordin said the Peninsular Express consisted of a 10-coach train service which could accommodate between 600 and 1,000 passengers. It is also equipped with a special coach that can be rented to organise activities and special events, he added. He said the Peninsular Express Train service operates twice daily. It leaves JB Sentral station at 5 pm and arrives at Hat Yai Station at 11.20 (local time) the following. "The service from Hat Yai station leaves at 4 pm (local time) and arrives at JB Sentral Station at 11.55 am the following day," he added. -- BERNAMA
