Nissan Unions Concerned about French Intervention in Renault
Tokyo, Dec. 2 (Jiji Press)--Two main labor unions of Nissan Motor Co. <7201> expressed concerns Wednesday over the French government's attempt to expand its influence over the management of Renault SA, the Japanese automaker's French partner.
In a joint statement, the unions, including the Federation of All Nissan and General Workers' Unions, said that they are strongly concerned about the French government's plan to double its voting rights in Renault next spring.
The French government's attempt is unacceptable, the statement said, adding that the move would destabilize the Nissan-Renault alliance.
The unions expressed support for Nissan's management, which has called for a constructive solution to the issue.
The unions called for securing the independence of Nissan management and an environment that allows the Nissan-Renault alliance to grow further and Nissan union members to work without worries.
