Saudi Press Agency wins Best Report Award 2008 in Arab News

Riyadh, January 10, SPA-- Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has won the Award
of the Best Report for 2008 in a competition of Federation of Arab
News Agencies (FANA) for its report titled "Archaeological Madaen
Saleh" submitted by the agency and prepared by Ayman Al-Raddadi, from
SPA Office in Madinah.

The general assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies decided
at its 36th conference held in the Lebanese capital of Beirut on
November 13-14, 2008 to award SPA the Award of the Best Report for
2008.

This is the second time that SPA has won the award of the best
report. In 2006, the agency won an award for its report titled
"Growth Centers in Asir" prepared by Ibrahim Niazi and Hassan
Al-Asmari of the agency's office in the city of Abha.
It is note worthy that FANA allocates annual prizes for the best
report and the best picture, in a completion in which most members of
the Arab News Agencies Federation participate.

SPA nominated its report "Archaeological Madaen Saleh" for the Award
of the Best Report after the announcement of registering for the
first time the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in July 2008 on the World
Heritage List of UNESCO through listing "Madaen Saleh" as a world
archaeological site among 855 archaeological sites.

Madaen Saleh is considered as the richest archaeological area in the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on which it was established one of the oldest
civilizations in history.

Madaen Saleh was mentioned in the Holy Quran as Thamoud, the people
of Prophet Saleh.

It is located about 25 kilometers north-east of Governorate Al-U'la
on the old trade route which links south of the Arabian Peninsula
with the north and on Al-Hijazi railway road in a mountainous area
whose highest peak amounts to 778 meters.

The report contained a description of Madaen Saleh including its
entrances, cemeteries, archeological sites, a number of palaces, a
cave and mountains surrounding it.

The report reviewed the description and details of those
archaeological sites and their contents which have been eternal up
to-date to show the signs and greatness of the Creator, Almighty
Allah, to be learnt as lessons.
