Malaysia Maintains 73rd Spot In Global Average Internet Connection Speed

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia maintained the 73rd spot in the global average internet connection speed, with the country's performance in internet infrastructure improving, said Akamai Technologies Inc. It said Malaysia is starting to make inroads in some areas towards making these improvements in line with the country's aspiration to become a regional business and technology business hub. "Growth is expected to accelerate on the back of the government’s recent reiteration on the Digital Economy which is expected to contribute 20 per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product by 2020," it added. Akamai Technologies, a company that provides one of the largest content delivery network services in the world highlighted this in its "State of the Internet Report" for the fourth quarter of 2015 (4Q15), released Friday. Based on data gathered, the report provides insights into key global statistics such as connection speeds, broadband adoption metrics, notable Internet disruptions, IPv4 exhaustion and IPv6 implementation. It said, Malaysia is showing a four per cent increase on four Megabits (Mbps) unique IP Address, 1.4 per cent increase in the 10 Mbps unique IP Address and 0.3 per cent increase in unique IP Address for 15 Mbps connections to Akamai’s networks. For 4Q15, Malaysia was the only country in the Asia Pacific region able to crack the top 10 for IPv6 adoption, with a 8.8 per cent unique IP Address traffic. It is slightly behind countries such as France and Ecuador with 11 per cent IPv6 traffic and the US (17 per cent). -- BERNAMA
