Ministry of Economy concludes successful UAE SME’s visit to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, 20th May, 2016, (WAM) -- A UAE delegation comprising over 50 Emirati entrepreneurs, SME owners, and government representatives, and led by Abdullah Al Saleh, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade and Industry Affairs, yesterday concluded an official visit to Malaysia where it had participated in the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Annual Showcase, SMIDEX, and explored what the country has to offer the burgeoning SME sector.
The visit is part of the ministry’s efforts to support start-up businesses in the UAE and boost international trade and cooperation. The trip was also sponsored by the Council of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Projects, SMEs Council, which was established to support the SME sector in the country through funding and providing guidance, as well as promotion of Emirati products and services.
Speaking about the outcome of the visit, Mohammed Hamdan Al Zaabi, Director of Trade Promotion and Investment at the MoE, said, "We would like to thank the SMEs Council for its support of this successful trip to Malaysia and its efforts in supporting home-grown talent and entrepreneurs. The large turn-out and interest in this initiative demonstrates the growth of the SME sector in the UAE."
During the visit, the delegates participated in SMIDEX, where a large number of SMEs, companies, and multinational corporations showcase their products.
On the sidelines of the event, delegates also participated in B2B meetings with the Malaysian side, including the SME Malaysia International Trade Association, SMITA, an organisation endorsed by the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation, MATRADE, where a number of delegates met potential business partners.
The delegation also toured the MATRADE Export Exhibition Centre, where they explored an array of local Malaysian products in a various sectors, including oil and gas, food and beverages, furniture, auto parts, healthcare, agriculture and even vehicles, with a display of the Malaysian-produced Proton and Perodua cars, and connected with potential business partners.
