Extraordinary Meeting of OIC Parliamentarians Opens

Istanbul, January 14, SPA -- Chairmen and Speakers of Shoura
(Consultative) Councils and parliaments of the Organization of
Islamic Conference (OIC)'s member states started here today their
emergency extraordinary parliamentary meeting of the Executive
Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the Member States, hosted by
the Turkish parliament to discuss a unified Islamic stance towards
the Israeli aggression, violations and attacks against the
Palestinian people in Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories.

Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Homaid, Chairman of Saudi Arabia's
Shoura Council, chairs his country's delegation to the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, Turkey's Parliament Speaker Koksal
Toptan described the events in Gaza and the Palestinian territories
as flagrant violation of all international norms and charters.
He said the practices of Israel there manage to derail any serious
effort aiming at bringing about peace in the region.
